...and we've tested the gates in ArmA 2.

Is this project still aiming at getting a stable version in arma that can be used over longer distances than the alpha?
- or is this now going to be an arma2 thing?

just wondering ;)

[edit: Nevermind, saw ArmaII/Gates Thread..  didn't realise arma mods are compatible with arma2 and its a case of copying them into the right folder - was getting worried at the prospect of this never getting finished for Arma..  *skulks off*  ]

The programming was started for ArmA, so it's a safe bet that work will be finished there. And since ArmA2 is still in its infant stage (regarding mod development, tools...), there will still be stuff being done for ArmA, that might get ported to ArmA2 when circumstances allow it so (and it doesn't seem a too hard job, judging from what's being done already). But for the moment, work for ArmA has to be finished (giving a chance to those that can't go with ArmA2 for the moment, just like when the OFP-ArmA transition).

Cheers

ArmaA1 - Arma2 is a lot nicer than OFP-ArmA1

Master Bra'tac beat Apophis in a game of chess. Using Mr Bun the Baker.

When Master Bra'tac fell from above and failed to learn to fly on the way down, Hannor Mir still became a street pizza.

you sure mean "order your" instead of "ask you"

btw you should make urself one thing clear:
we all want this so bad but they do it for free so i dont think you go the right to order anything.

if not then:

they already said this a few sides ago they changed the way the gates work and in its current state it would be more disturbing than cool.so we have to wait i guess

Hey Frostman, and everyone !

I've just read all of the posts here, before I decided to post a comment or question, so I wouldn't put a wrench in the gears to slow you down from passing out "ice cream"....(by the way vanilla, not rocky road lol).

After reading everything that was asked and replys made, I still didn't see these questions asked in this topic.

1. With the new version of the gate system will you be adding the notebook to show the addresses?
2. Will there be 8 and 9 chevron dialing? If so will there be different wormhole effects for each?
    Example 7 chev's = 3 seconds
               8 chev's = 5 seconds
               9 chev's = 8 seconds
If not, will there be a way, and the permission, to add in the different wormhole effects for a public, or private release?

Well those are the only things I can think of right now for this topic. I'm off to read the other half of the site now. Cheers All!

We'll have a notebook or similar.

We're currently working on 7 symbol addresses, and the length of the wormhole is based on how long it takes to prerender the other side.
This will be a fixed time for AI / objects, since they do not prerender and we''l have to think smart for MP. Probably taking it off of the slowest system.

I'd like to add that we will be adding 8 - 9 sized gate addresses before the beta release.

I'm currently working on making the addons code publically available, probably along the lines of tweaking implies permission (i.e. you can play with the code but in doing so implies giving DSF permission to use such tweaks in future official releases).

ITER was originally an acronym for International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, but that title was dropped due to the negative popular connotation of "thermonuclear", especially when in conjunction with "experimental".
