Help with getting gates to work
« on: September 19, 2008, 11:36:26 pm »

I notcied that with your alpha release there was no readme or explination of how to get the gates to dial or anything to that matter.

I have installed all this stuff and the units and ships, but i am not good at modding, how do i get the stargates to work, that is to dial to another stargate and walk through like in the videos?
I have tried selecting gate address, writing down the address and then dialing it, from that stargate and another, it does not work.
Help??

You're probably just dialing the wrong address.

Click "Gate Address" at gate #1, write down the first 6 symbols (there are 7 shown, but we just need 6 of it)
Go to gate #2, click "Gate Address" and add the 7th symbol of them to your address.
Now enter that address at gate #2.

"Gate Address" shows the address (6 symbols) + the point of origin (7th, where you are). But when you dial from gate #2 you need the address of gate #1, plus the point of origin of gate #2.

'Point of origin' is also shown left above the DHD panel when you click "Dial Stargate".

The addresses and point of origins are random generated and different in each mission.
If you want to have the same ones every time you can script it by putting a line of code in the init field of the stargate.

example: (from the demo mission, included in the mission maker's release)
Quote
[this,"Earth",[28,26,5,36,11,29],1,false,""] exec "\DSF_SG_DHD\sqs\CreateIdentity.sqs"

The array with the 6 numbers (red) is the address. The next parameter (blue) is the point of origin.
The image "Symbol number.jpg" (should be in the downloaded file) shows what symbol each number stands for.

And you can use this image for finding the right symbols on the dhd:

omg, that looked like the perfect solution, by the way when you say the init field of the stargate, you mean the initialization field in the editor when you click on the stargate?
and i have changed the numbers, it does not work.
It must be me, i just dont get it....

I cant help you get the Gates to dial properly i never quite got it my self, but those are the download links for the gates, ships, units, and weapons, all you do is make a mod folder, then get an arma launcher that works with mod folders, the site armaholic.com is good for this, and has a tutorial for mod folders and things.
You'll get the hang of it mate
