Ok, here are some frequently asked questions and their answers.
These are correct at time of writing.
New or updated questions have been marked.

Where can I get the game?
ArmA II can be got from those places, and also via Steam.

Where can I get the mod?
There is an unstable release available to people who REALLY want to try and use the gates and who know what they are doing. To be blunt, if you're smart enough to know how to use this version, I don't need to put a link to it here.

When will the gates be released?
Final release: I don't know. Unstable "nightly", see above

Can I fly through the gate?
If you can fit it through the gate, it will be transported.

Can I drive a tank through the gate?
If you can fit it through the gate, it will be transported.

Can I push a car through the gate?
If you can fit it through the gate, it will be transported.

Can I put a boat through the gate?
If you can fit it through the gate, it will be transported.

Were those last ones really asked?
No. I felt they were funny and someone was bound to ask them sooner or later.

Does anything not go through the gate?
Ambient life, dead bodies, Chinooks.

You said I could fly through the gate, why can't I get a large transport helicopter through it?
Can it fit?

Can I fly through the gate as a bird? *
This scenario has not been tested, DSF Productions can not hold any responsibility for any damages incurred, including (but not limited to) wormhole destabilisation, space/time paradoxes or loss of feathers.

How do I make custom gate addresses?
Place glyphs next to the gate. The video blog explains this in detail.

How can I port addon to ArmA because it would look cool to see a addon next to the gate!
This is beyond the scope of this FAQ.

How do I use Cheyenne Mountain? Is there an SGC we can use?
Yes.

Where do I download the newest stable version?
It isn't out yet.
Though this question has already been covered in the FAQ, it gets asked to often I felt it needed answering twice.


Why is it taking so long?
Either because there's a lot of work that's being done to it, thus making it quite complicated and not able to be rushed OR it's ready for release already and we just enjoy hearing you whine. You choose. Then realise your choice was wrong and that it's the first one.

Will the new gates work on ArmA? *
No.

Will the gate be ported to ArmA II? *
Yes. This is what we are developing it on. You will need Operation Arrowhead as well.

Are you just going to hold off on us and do an ArmA III release, leaving us with half a project for ArmA II in the same way you did with ArmA? *

We are making use of some of the cool toys that OA offers us that are not available in stock ArmA II

Why are you recoding so much stuff? I want a release now!
Firstly, that's not really a question. Secondly, there were a few issues that existed in the ArmA script which were found when converting to ArmA II. Correcting these then caused some timing issues. The end result is that the code is now a lot more efficient that before, so we're making these optimisations throughout the entire codebase.

What about the mission makers' release?
I don't know what you're talking about.

Seriously though: What about the mission makers' release?
The Mission Makers' Release is an old version of the gate that is no longer supported. It was released as a version for mission makers to use to develop missions with the gates. It can still be used by mission makers to protoype missions but WE WILL NOT SUPPORT YOU with any problems with this release. Any missions made with it would need to be recoded anyway. You may want to forget that it exists.

How does the gate system work?

Are the gates still being worked on? *
Yes; our current focus is on transporting bullets reliably. Once the transport code is nailed, we should be in a position to consider rolling out a public demo

Bullets? Seriously? *
Absolutely serious - we want to be able to reliably transport objects that are fast moving. We don't want things flying straight through the puddle or getting transported when they shouldn't be.
Once bullets are sorted - fast moving things in groups - everything else should be simple.

Any chance of a new video of the gates? *
Sure thing!

There's no kawoosh. Why? **
We haven't added it back in yet.

The chevrons aren't lighting up for me, yet they are in the videos. Why? **
We are having some problems with the way that the gates are currently delivered. cpbo does not binarise the PBO, and that is preventing the lights from appearing

Any more projects in the pipeline? *
Yes, it should be awesome and I'm not telling you.

There's no Cheyenne Mountain Complex but a part of  SGC / Area 52 is released:

Copying everyone's work and claiming it as his own. Many times over.
He had a lower ascension ratio than you!!!

I do need to update this FAQ to include the fact that there is ifnally an SGC that is not a rip off of someone else's work.

I cant open the example mission in "steam" version, when I open the mision "1 stargate", gives me an error "YOU CANNOT PLAY/EDIT THIS MISSION; IT IS INDEPENDENT ON DOWNLOADABLECONTENT, THAT HAS BEEN DELETED. DSF_SG_DHD, DSF_SG_GATE.

ITER was originally an acronym for International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, but that title was dropped due to the negative popular connotation of "thermonuclear", especially when in conjunction with "experimental".

I installed evey thing but every time i try to go somewhere like abydos the stargate wont open the wormhole i wrote the glyps right but it wont work pls help

yeah i walked through but nothing happens and also when i dial the right symbols it makes a sound like if it was shutting off or i made a mistake and i have tried all the planets like 100 times each one and it keeps acting like i made a mistake

and also i esxtracted the pbo.s to the addons folder in arma and thats all i extracted from the download file
