Stargate Resistance
« on: December 09, 2009, 09:06:31 am »

If anybody here has heard about the new game they just announced I was wondering what people thought about it. I think it could be cool, but I think they could take it a different way. Lets hope this one actually gets released.

Yet another game? I hope it's not another MMORPG trying to compete with WOW, I just hate those (specially the "pay each month" part).

http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Stargate_Resistance

It's developed by the same company as the MMORPG, I thought and read that the game (MMORPG) may not come to an release because of financial problems and now they work on a second title? Doesn't add up.

The graphics look worse than Stargate The Alliance and that was cancalled in 2006. From the description it looks like it won't include (story-based) SP.

Master Bra'tac beat Apophis in a game of chess. Using Mr Bun the Baker.

When Master Bra'tac fell from above and failed to learn to fly on the way down, Hannor Mir still became a street pizza.

Ha! The description already says it's yet another MMORPG... don't they ever get tired of that gamestyle? Why not make a SP/MP "sandbox" style game? Seriously, they're just closing the door to getting SP players (cause I ain't paying a monthly fee to play a WOW imitation, and like me, probably a bunch of people).

Also, once you go MMO, you break the environment.
Stargate is small teams doing missions. Occasionally multiple small teams doing the same mission together.
Stargate is not thousands of people all doing quests and gaining XP to let them do more quests.

What they need to do is a sandboxed FPS with coop play.
Imagine Left 4 Dead mixed with Stargate with a lot of flexibility. 4 man team, go to planet, do stuff, return to base.
The dial from Earth would send you to the right place - Walter's not silly.
On your return, you have to enter the correct address. If you put in an invalid one, you get no connection. Put in the wrong planet and you load that map and go there, probably with the game chastising you for going to the wrong place (Go to Ba'al's homeworld and get violated by all his Jaffa, etc)

That's gotta be an extremely unpleasant experience.

Ok, It does seem that this new game is heavly based on the same ideas as SG:CE... Just not going to be nearly as good lol.

ITER was originally an acronym for International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, but that title was dropped due to the negative popular connotation of "thermonuclear", especially when in conjunction with "experimental".

www.stargateresistance.com

What I read on the resistance website I thought the game was online 3rd person combat I didnt see anything about it being mmorpg. Other than gaining experience points.

FAQ:
How will Stargate Resistance be different from Stargate Worlds?
While both games are set in the Stargate universe and involve Stargate lore and canon, they are two completely different games in two completely different genres. Stargate Worlds is an MMO (massively multiplayer online game) whereas Stargate Resistance is an online 3rd person shooter. Stargate Resistance offers a very different experience to our fans than Stargate Worlds, but you can expect to come across some familiar people and places.
