Weird bullet cloud and apathetic AI?
« on: August 31, 2010, 09:26:26 pm »

Hi, I've always been a fan of the Stargate series, bar Universe, so I'm really glad I found this mod. Now I've been playing the ARMA2 games since OFP, and yesterday I downloaded the following addons for ARMA2:

http://www.stargateassault.net/forum/index.php/topic,2220.0.html - Jaffa

http://www.stargateassault.net/forum/index.php/topic,2118.0.html - SG/Atlantis Characters

http://www.stargateassault.net/forum/index.php/topic,2226.0.html - Alkesh

http://www.stargateassault.net/forum/index.php/topic,2228.0.html - P90

http://www.stargateassault.net/forum/index.php/topic,2238.0.html - Worlds map

Now, regardless of what map I use, everytime I fire a weapon I get a huge puff of cloud like dust in the distance, growing more and more numerous each time I fire. It sort of looks like the cloud that comes out of the barrel of a gun when fired, only enlarged a 100 times. At the beginning of a mission and each time I fire, the screen floods with blue text referring to the type of bullets being fired by the gun, and also talking about a .sqf file. I think this might have something to do with it.

Another problem I have is that the Jaffa AI seem to be completely apathetic to the enemy. They rarely fire and when they do it's only at ranges of about 10 feet at best.

I did a test, where I put about 7 groups of Jaffa moving towards 8 SG soldiers, with a distance of about 50 meters. The Jaffa barely fired any shots, they certainly reacted to the enemy presence, but doing the usual crouching and going prone, but rarely actually moving anywhere, but in all the time I watched, this group of about 40+ Jaffa only fired about 5 shots between them? What's going on? I didn't touch their behavioural status.

Yeah the jaffa can be a little odd sometimes. These bullets, are you talking about every weapon even BIS ones or just SG weapons? Certain other mods will kinda interfere with some of the effects the SGMOD uses for weapons, so if your using any other mods I would suggest disabling them and see if that does anything.

It's nice to see new faces here   .

Now, about your post:

There's a smoke cloud+small explosion that will appear when a staffweapon hits sth. ("ammo_explosion" or so), but I never saw it building up with each shot.

Yep, I'm with bait on this one. The message sounds like some other addon is screwing up, never got such an error.

Try disabling all mods except the sgmod addons and start up again. Also for the Jaffa, check your diffuculty settings, advanced tab. If you set the skill values low, Jaffa will miss very often. Better set them to 0.9 - 1.0 if you didn't allready. I once had it set lower and the Jaffa were shooting 1m above my head.

Then I switched to higher values and got a staffblast right into my head.

You can also try moving with large groups of Jaffa, say e.g. 30 Jaffa in one group so they communicate better.
